Frequently Asked Questions

How often can I vote?

You can vote from any device once in every 24-hour cycle.

Why are votes not updating? Why is  there a discrepancy between leaderboard and vote counter on video page?

We are aware there are technical issues with the way votes are displayed on some devices. However, rest assured, all eligible votes are correctly recorded in the master voting database, and we will be using these definitive data to generate the shortlists.

The issue that some devices and web browsers save versions of web pages and do not immediately refresh to show the live vote count. As a consequence, the vote counter on your screen may not display the updated count, or there may look like there is a discrepancy between the vote counter and leaderboard (if one or both pages are cached in your browser). The following actions may resolve the issue:
  • always refresh your web browser to see the updated count (you may be looking a saved version of the page)
  • you may have to clear your browsing data (cookies, browser cache  and browser history) to see updated vote counts
Note that this issue only affects the way votes are displayed on some users devices, not the actual count.

Why are my votes dropping?

Some devices allow users to press the vote button more than once. These duplicate votes are temporarily displayed on the vote counter. However, every few hours the system updates and deletes all the duplicate votes. In other words, a user may press the vote button 10 times, temporarily increasing your vote count by 10 votes, but the system will delete 9 votes after a few hours (one one vote is allowed per user in every 24-hour cycle). All eligible votes are correctly recorded in the master voting database, and we will be using these definitive data to generate the shortlists.

Why can't people vote!

Everyone with a unique IP address can vote once in a 24-hour period. In some situations, most notably offices that share the same web server or internet connection, users share the same IP address. As a consequence only one vote can be counted from this address in a 24-hour cycle.

We allow one vote every 24 hours from a unique IP address. In some situations, most notably offices where devices are networked via the same web server or a single internet connection, users may share the same IP address. As a consequence, only one vote will be allowed from this IP address in a 24-hour cycle. In this situation we advise users to vote from their mobile devices, using their mobile connection.

Can we use automated voting?

Automated votes of any kind, including but not limited to votes submitted using any bot, script, macro, or contest service, and third party entries are not permitted and will be disqualified.  Any organisation that attempts to distort or manipulate the results of the competition will be disqualified. The judge’s decision on this will be final and no further correspondence will be entered into regarding this decision.

The site looks funny and some buttons are missing

I have IE6 / IE7. Why do you not support it?

IE6 is well over ten years old: a long time in an industry that did not exist 20 years ago, and a lot has happened since. IE6 has been found to insecure and slow, leading to a poor browsing experience for users. Last year Google and Facebook (& others) stopped supporting it. This year, so did we. And IE7 is only marginally better. It's time to upgrade your browser.
